Sort the manga catalog by created / updated / title / author with an
independent asc/desc direction control. An omitted `order` defaults per field
(dates newest-first, text A→Z), matching the UI, so a bare `?sort=<field>`
means the same thing in the browser and over the API; `sort=recent` remains a
back-compat alias for `created`.
- Backend: SortField/SortOrder parsed with validation (structured 422 on bad
input), per-field default_order, NULLS LAST only on the nullable author key,
and migration 0033 indexing mangas(updated_at DESC, id) to back the default
sort and its id tie-break.
- Frontend: catalog sort field + direction (SegmentedControl) on desktop and a
mobile bottom sheet; pure helpers in $lib/mangaSort; keyboard-accessible
direction control; visible Direction labels and a sheet "Done" button.
- Tests: backend integration coverage (defaults, alias, invalid input,
ascending-id tie-break), frontend unit + e2e.

Four 0.87.6 follow-ups from the adversarial review:
1. **Migration 0031 pre-dedup.** Demote all-but-lowest-id duplicate
`analyze_page` rows in `(pending|running)` to `dead` before
creating the unique index, with a curator-recoverable last_error
marker. Without this, `sqlx::migrate!` would refuse to boot on
any dirty production DB.
2. **`enqueue_for_page(force=true)` collision.** The partial unique
index used to silently swallow force requests when a
`force=false` job was already pending. Repo function now upgrades
the pending row's `force` flag in place (or falls through to
re-INSERT if the sibling drained mid-call), and reports an
`EnqueueForPageOutcome` for accurate auditing.
3. **`record_duration` gate test.** New test seeds a `done` row with
known duration, force-re-analyzes with failing dispatcher +
max_attempts=3 (non-terminal), asserts duration_ms wasn't
overwritten.
4. **`bookmark.rs` PK comment correction.** Use `b.id DESC` instead
of the wrong `manga_id`; PK is actually `id`, and migration 0004
allows both chapter-level and manga-level bookmarks on the same
manga.

Two follow-ups to 0.87.2 + 0.87.3 from the adversarial review:
1. **CSRF cookie-ride.** Bearer-bypass branch checked Authorization
header presence only — an attacker page could mint `Authorization:
Bearer junk` and ride the still-attached session cookie. Bypass now
requires bearer AND no cookie. Drive the cookie-name comparison off
`SESSION_COOKIE_NAME` and split on `=` (not prefix).
2. **`require_can_edit` admin path open to bearer.** Now reads admin
authority off an `Option<CurrentSessionUser>` extractor — None on
bearer-only requests. Owner-match path still accepts bearer; admin
path is cookie-gated.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
`require_can_edit` matched `Some(owner) != caller → Forbidden` but let
`None` through. Every crawler row (`repo::crawler::upsert_manga`) has
NULL `uploaded_by`, so any signed-in user could PATCH /api/v1/mangas/<id>
and rewrite the catalog — `update`, `put_cover`, and `delete_cover`
were all in scope. With self-registration on by default, the path was:
register → mass-edit catalog + delete cover blobs from storage.
The original carve-out at the comment said "Once an admin role lands the
NULL case can flip to admin-only." The admin role landed in migration
0018; flipping it now. New rule:
* `Some(owner)` and owner == caller → ok (unchanged)
* `Some(_)` and caller is admin → ok (admin moderation)
* `Some(_)` otherwise → 403 (unchanged)
* `None` and caller is admin → ok (NEW — operator can curate)
* `None` otherwise → 403 (was: ok — the bug)

Turn the dormant timing data in crawl_metrics / page_analysis into "is it
healthy over time" views. New bucketed series queries (GROUP BY date_trunc,
hour|day via a closed Bucket enum so the unit can't be attacker-controlled)
behind GET /v1/admin/{crawler,analysis}/metrics/series, with a shared
SeriesParams/resolve_bucket helper (bad bucket → 400) and migration 0030
indexing page_analysis(analyzed_at) for the analysis scan.
Frontend: a dependency-free SVG TrendChart (line+area, null buckets render as
gaps, empty-state, role=img) embedded above the per-op tables in Crawler and
Analysis → Metrics, driven by each panel's existing window selector with
AbortController-cancelled fetches. A buildSeries() util fills the continuous
bucket axis (throughput 0 for empty buckets, success/duration null) — unit
tested alongside the chart and the series API client.
Closes the Phase-1 observability set (audit log · health checks · trends).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
New /admin/health rolls up signals already collected — disk/memory sensors,
dead-job + missing-cover backlogs, 24h crawl/analysis failure rates, metadata
cron freshness, and the live crawler session/browser flags — into a flat
checks list (ok/warn/critical) with an overall status and remediation links.
The overview gains a compact Health summary banner linking in.
GET /v1/admin/health evaluates the checks (DB sub-queries run concurrently via
try_join; all hit existing indexes). PUT /v1/admin/health/thresholds persists
the thresholds to app_settings (merged over compiled defaults, forward-compat
via serde(default)), validates ranges (400 on bad input), and audit-logs the
change in one transaction. New repo::crawler::last_metadata_tick_at getter and
a lightweight system::memory_percent_used (no CPU settle delay).
Pure status helpers (over_limit for gauges, exceeds for backlog counts so a
0-limit doesn't false-alarm at 0) are unit-tested; endpoint tests cover shape,
gating, persistence+audit, and validation.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Surface the admin_audit table (written by every mutating admin action but
previously unreadable) as a new /admin/audit tab. New repo::admin_audit::list
(LEFT JOIN users for the actor's username, filter by action/target_kind/actor/
since, at DESC via admin_audit_at_idx) behind GET /v1/admin/audit, mirroring the
crawler history endpoint's paged/clamped idiom.
Frontend: a self-contained AuditTable (target-kind + window + action filters,
expandable JSON payload, AbortController-cancelled fetches, loading/error/empty
states) and shared fmtAgo() in format.ts.

The interleaved metadata pass misses mangas to list drift (a title slips a
pagination slot during the slow detail walk). Add a reconcile pass: a cheap,
full, list-only walk (refs only, no detail visit, no early stop) that
set-diffs the walked keys against manga_sources and enqueues the strictly-
missing ones as SyncManga jobs. A set-diff is immune to drift — a manga only
has to appear somewhere in the list.
- Build the previously-dead SyncManga worker by extending RealChapterDispatcher
to run the shared pipeline::process_manga_ref (fetch → upsert → cover →
chapters), refactored out of run_metadata_pass so both paths stay in lockstep.
The crawl worker now leases both sync_chapter_content and sync_manga
(jobs::lease_kinds); both serialize on the single exclusive browser.
- SyncManga payload carries url + title so the worker can rebuild the ref and
the dead-jobs/history UI can label a missing manga that has no manga row yet.
- "Missing" = strict NOT EXISTS (dropped rows count as present). Re-enqueue is
skipped when a pending/running/dead SyncManga job already exists, so a gone
manga (detail 404 → retries → dead) is left dead and not retried.
- New POST /v1/admin/crawler/reconcile (fire-and-forget, shares
manual_pass_lock) + "Reconcile missing" admin button + Reconciling status
phase streamed over SSE.
- dead-jobs/history queries surface payload title/url/key; tables fall back to
them for sync_manga rows; both searches match the payload title.

The admin overview dashboard polls /admin/overview every 30s. Its
`manga_stats` aggregate evaluated MANGA_SYNC_STATE_CASE over the WHOLE
library (14.5k mangas) with no LIMIT, and that CASE runs a correlated
EXISTS over crawler_jobs. With no index on the `sync_chapter_list`
manga_id path, Postgres seqscanned all in-flight jobs *per manga* —
O(mangas x jobs). The disabled-analysis backlog (9.5k pending
`analyze_page` rows that can never match the sync-kind filter) inflated
every scan, so each call took 6-7 min. The 30s poll stacked ~10 of them
concurrently → load 11, Postgres at ~100%.
EXPLAIN ANALYZE on the live DB: the rewrite drops the query from 6-7 min
to ~1.5s (per-manga crawler_jobs seqscan → single index-backed pass).
Fixes:
- Rewrite `manga_stats` to collect the in-flight manga-id set in ONE pass
over the sync jobs (index-backed), then classify via a hash semi-join —
O(mangas + jobs), immune to the analyze_page backlog size.
- Add partial index crawler_jobs_sync_chapter_list_manga_idx (migration
0029) covering the sync_chapter_list manga_id path; mirrors the existing
sync_manga index (0020). Also speeds the per-row Mangas tab listing.
- statement_timeout backstop (5s) on the aggregate so a pathological plan
can never pin a backend for minutes again.
- Single-flight + 10s TTL cache on the /admin/overview handler so
concurrent pollers coalesce instead of stacking.
- Slow the dashboard poll 30s -> 60s (server-cached now anyway).
The in_progress rule in the rewrite is kept in lockstep with the first
arm of MANGA_SYNC_STATE_CASE (documented in both places).

Persist blob sizes (covers + chapter pages) and surface upload storage
usage to admins in two places:
- Admin System tab: total/covers/chapters totals, ratio of disk, average
image sizes, and top-5 largest mangas/chapters leaderboards, behind a
new GET /api/v1/admin/storage endpoint (separate from /admin/system so
the cheap DB aggregates aren't coupled to its 250ms CPU sample).
- Manga detail page: total chapter-content size and per-chapter size,
with an em-dash for uncrawled or not-yet-measured chapters.
Sizes are captured at write time (crawler put_stream return, uploaded
page/cover byte length) into nullable pages.size_bytes /
mangas.cover_size_bytes columns; NULL means "not yet measured", distinct
from a real 0. A one-shot, idempotent admin "Backfill sizes" action
(POST /api/v1/admin/storage/backfill) stats pre-existing blobs in
keyset-paginated, capped batches and reports more_remaining so a large
legacy library can be drained over multiple runs.
Aggregates and leaderboards treat NULL honestly (only fully-measured
entities are ranked); a dashboard banner flags unmeasured rows so partial
figures aren't read as complete. persist_pages now prunes stale page rows
on a shrinking re-crawl so totals and page_count stay consistent.

Move crawler and analysis configuration out of boot-only env vars and into
a DB-backed, admin-editable surface applied live without a restart.
- New `app_settings` table (migration 0026) holds one JSONB row per group;
env vars seed it on first boot, then the DB is the source of truth.
- `settings.rs` adds serializable Crawler/Analysis DTOs with env-base +
DB-overlay conversion and field-level validation; env-only/secret fields
(browser, proxy, TOR, vision API key, PHPSESSID) are never persisted.
- `GET/PUT /api/v1/admin/settings/{crawler,analysis}` (RequireAdmin,
cookie-only, CSRF-guarded): GET returns the editable DTO + a read-only
env-managed view + prompt defaults; PUT validates (422 + per-field
details), persists + audits in one tx, then gracefully respawns the
affected daemon via a Supervisor.
- AppState swaps the crawler control/resync handles and analysis enable
gate behind shared runtime cells so reloads take effect with no restart;
a boot-time spawn failure is logged rather than aborting startup.
- Make the three vision prompts and sampling temperature configurable
(defaults preserved); cookie_domain is admin-editable too.
- Frontend: tabbed /admin/settings page with grouped fieldsets, prompt
reset-to-default, env-managed read-only panel, save-&-apply confirm, and
per-field validation; typed client + ApiError.details.
- Bump version 0.79.1 -> 0.80.0.

Broadcasts analysis progress so the dashboard updates live:
- analysis::events: AnalysisEvents broadcaster + AnalysisEvent
(Enqueued / Started / Completed / Failed), carrying the
manga/chapter/page breadcrumb.
- The worker daemon resolves each page's breadcrumb (repo::page::locate)
and publishes Started before dispatch and Completed/Failed after.
- The admin reenqueue publishes Enqueued (scoped by manga/chapter).
- GET /v1/admin/analysis/status/stream — SSE (RequireAdmin) forwarding
each event as a named `analysis` frame; broadcast lag emits a `lagged`
frame. AppState carries the always-present events bus.
Tests: worker publishes started+completed (with breadcrumb) and failed;
SSE route is admin-gated (403 non-admin) and returns text/event-stream.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Generalizes the admin re-enqueue beyond global backfill:
- repo::page_analysis::enqueue_pages(scope, only_unanalyzed) with
ReenqueueScope::{All,Manga,Chapter}. Fixes include-analyzed semantics:
only_unanalyzed=false now enqueues jobs with force=true so the worker
actually re-analyzes already-done pages instead of skipping them.
- POST /v1/admin/analysis/reenqueue accepts optional manga_id / chapter_id
(mutually exclusive, 404 on unknown target) alongside only_unanalyzed.
Tests: manga/chapter scope counts, include-analyzed sets force=true on the
done page, mutual-exclusivity 422, unknown-target 404. Existing global
backfill tests still green (13 total).

Surfaces the analysis worker's NSFW moderation at the manga level:
- repo::manga FILTER_WHERE gains cw_include (AND, page-content-warning
join to mangas) and cw_exclude (NONE) clauses; ListQuery + binds
renumbered ($6/$7, LIMIT/OFFSET $8/$9).
- repo::page_analysis::warnings_for_manga: deduped, alphabetical union
across all the manga's pages.
- domain::MangaDetail gains content_warnings; get_detail populates it.
- api::mangas list accepts cw_include/cw_exclude (reusing the shared
parse_warnings_csv validator).
Tests: detail union (deduped/sorted) + empty case; list include/exclude
filter; unknown-warning 422. Existing manga tests still green.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
New GET /v1/me/page-search surfacing the analysis worker's output:
- repo::page_analysis::page_search + PageSearchQuery: multi-tag AND across
(user page_tags ∪ global page_auto_tags) via the unnest double-negative
idiom, weighted OCR/scene text ranking (ts_rank over search_doc), and
content-warning include/exclude. One row per page with is_nsfw +
deduped content_warnings + rank.
- domain::PageSearchItem.
- api::page_tags: /me/page-search handler with CSV tag/warning parsing
(parse_tags_csv reuses normalize_tag; parse_warnings_csv validates the
closed vocabulary), requiring at least one positive filter (422 else).
This is where the reserved OCR text search lands for pages.
Tests: multi-tag AND user∪auto, speech>sfx ranking, cw include/exclude
(+ row flags), text-only (no tags), missing-filter 422, unknown-warning
422, auth required.
Note: the /me/page-tags/chapters|mangas aggregations keep single-tag
behavior + the reserved text=501 for now; page-level search is the
primary text surface.

The OpenAI-compatible vision client and the bounded prompt/output handling
for the analysis worker (no DB, fully unit-tested):
- analysis::prompt: terse system prompt carrying the JSON schema, the OCR
kind / content-warning vocabularies, and the output-size caps.
- analysis::vision: VisionClient (downscale via the new `image` dep →
base64 data-URL → chat/completions with an image_url part), plus pure
parse_chat_completion (fence/prose-tolerant) and sanitize (drop empty
OCR, truncate, clamp tags to 10 via the shared page-tag normalizer,
filter unknown warnings).
- config::AnalysisConfig extended with endpoint/model/api_key/timeouts/
max_tokens/max_image_dim/max_image_bytes + from_env.
- Deps: add `image` (jpeg/png/webp), reqwest `json` feature. Expose
api::page_tags::normalize_tag as pub(crate) for reuse.

Wires the analyze_page job kind into the page-create paths and adds admin
controls, all gated on a new ANALYSIS_ENABLED flag (AppState.analysis_enabled,
config::AnalysisConfig):
- Chapter upload (api::chapters) enqueues one analyze_page job per page
after the tx commits (best-effort; failures logged, never fatal).
- Crawler content sync (persist_pages → RETURNING id) enqueues per
persisted page when the daemon dispatcher's analysis_enabled flag is set;
threaded through sync_chapter_content (CLI/resync pass false).
- repo::page_analysis::enqueue_all_pages: bulk backfill via INSERT..SELECT,
skipping done pages (only_unanalyzed) and existing pending jobs.
- New admin endpoints (RequireAdmin, 503 when disabled, audited):
POST /admin/analysis/reenqueue and POST /admin/pages/:id/analyze (force).
Tests: upload enqueues N jobs / no-op when disabled; crawler persist_pages
enqueue gate; admin reenqueue (backfill, idempotent, only-unanalyzed, 503,
non-admin 403) and force-analyze (force flag, 404).

Add GET /v1/mangas/:id/similar returning the top 5 mangas ranked by
Jaccard tag overlap (shared / union), excluding self, as MangaCard items
in a plain { items } object. Surface them in a hidden-when-empty
"Similar" section on the manga detail page, reusing MangaCard.
Backend: new repo::manga::list_similar with a manga_tags self-join; a
shared cards_from_rows helper (also used by list_cards) that loads
authors+genres concurrently; single-sourced column list via MANGA_COLS +
manga_cols(alias) to replace the fragile SELECT_COLS string-splitting.
Frontend: getSimilarMangas client fn (guards a malformed body), loader
fetch with non-critical .catch fallback, and the catalog grid hoisted to
a shared global .manga-grid (lib/styles/tokens.css), de-duplicating the
per-route copies.
Bump version 0.62.0 -> 0.63.0 (backend + frontend in lockstep).

Add the /search surface (Pages / Chapters / Mangas tabs) backed by
per-user page tags and per-page collections: schema (migration 0023),
backend endpoints for page tags/collections and tagged-page aggregations
(with the OCR text-search param reserved at 501), plus the frontend API
clients, library Page-tags tab, collection page sections, page context
menu / AddTagsSheet, and reader long-press wiring. Includes the
continuous-reader navigation fixes (?page=N handling, chapter-reset
timing, back-button pops history) and tag-normalization hardening
accumulated on the branch.
Bump version 0.60.2 -> 0.62.0.

Admin-only crawler dashboard backed by an SSE live-status stream,
coordinated browser restart, runtime PHPSESSID refresh, dead-letter
requeue, and a batch of reliability fixes. Closes everything from
the two-pass audit (10 commits' worth) and bumps 0.52.0 -> 0.55.0.
Backend:
- New /admin/crawler/* surface (cookie-auth, RequireAdmin) split
into status / control / dead_jobs / backlog modules. SSE stream
composes in-memory status with DB-derived queue counts, memoizes
the counts for 1s and debounces watch pokes for 250ms (~10x QPS
reduction per subscriber). One-shot GET /admin/crawler shares the
same compose path.
- POST /admin/crawler/run gated by manual_pass_lock try_lock_owned
(409 Conflict on overlapping click); browser restart goes through
the coordinated_restart gate (drain + relaunch + auto-clear of the
sticky session_expired flag on Ok).
- Runtime PHPSESSID refresh via SessionController (allow-list
validation, never logged, audit row carries SHA-256 fingerprint).
Storage layer is repo::crawler::runtime_session_{load,persist}.
- Dead-letter requeue with four scopes (all/manga/chapter/job);
scope=all requires confirm:true; DISTINCT ON dedup keeps the
partial unique index from rejecting requeues for chapters with
multiple dead rows. SQL is four &'static str constants per scope.
- StatusHandle + ChapterGuard / CoverGuard RAII model survives
panics; last-writer-wins on cover so concurrent dispatches don't
clobber each other's slot. Pure functions (should_stop /
should_mark_clean_exit / should_abort_pass) with named regression
tests.
- Reliability bundle: per-lease heartbeat, jitter on retries,
per-job timeout, circuit breaker on consecutive failures, BrowserManager
coordinated restart gate, request fingerprint changes.
- Streaming page download: Storage::put_stream trait method,
LocalStorage impl atomic via temp + fsync + UUID-suffixed rename.
Pages stream through with peak memory ~one HTTP chunk + 64-byte
sniff prefix instead of one full image per dispatch.
- New partial indexes (migration 0022): mangas_missing_cover_idx
and crawler_jobs_dead_idx, both ordered by updated_at DESC to
match the dashboard's LIMIT/OFFSET reads.
- Security hardening: admin_csrf_guard (Origin/Referer allowlist
on /admin/* mutations, opt-in via ADMIN_ALLOWED_ORIGINS),
admin_no_store_guard (Cache-Control: no-store on admin
responses), audit rows carry per-scope target_id.
Frontend:
- /admin/crawler page decomposed into lib/components/crawler/
(11 components: ProgressBar, SearchBar, CrawlerHero,
CrawlerControls, ActiveChaptersCard, ActiveJobsTable,
MissingCoversTable, DeadJobsTable, RestartConfirmModal,
RequeueAllConfirmModal, SessionModal). Page is 532 LOC of
orchestration; each component 22-148 LOC.
- EventSource lifecycle wired to visibilitychange / pagehide /
pageshow (BFCache); after 5 consecutive errors probes the status
endpoint so a 401 routes through the global on401Hook instead of
infinite silent reconnects.
- Backlog $effect refetches debounced 500ms with per-loader
AbortControllers; refresh after a control action only runs when
the SSE stream is dead.
- Inline requeue button on /admin/mangas patches the affected row's
sync_state locally (no full chapter-list refetch); proper
aria-label. Requeue-all gets its own confirm modal; both confirm
modals autofocus Cancel.
- SvelteKit reverse proxy bypasses its 5-minute AbortController
for Accept: text/event-stream; pure shouldBypassProxyTimeout
helper covered by unit tests.
Config / docs:
- New env vars (.env.example): ADMIN_ALLOWED_ORIGINS,
CRAWLER_JOB_TIMEOUT_SECS, CRAWLER_METADATA_MAX_CONSECUTIVE_FAILURES,
CRAWLER_BROWSER_RESTART_THRESHOLD.

Adds a per-tick cover-backfill pass to the crawler daemon so mangas whose
cover download failed on first attempt get retried — the metadata pass's
early-stop optimisation otherwise prevents the walk from revisiting them.
Adds admin-only POST /admin/mangas/:id/resync and POST /admin/chapters/:id/resync
that refetch metadata + cover (or chapter content with force_refetch) from the
crawler source synchronously and return the refreshed row. Surfaced in the
UI as "Force resync" buttons on the manga detail and reader pages,
admin-only via session.user.is_admin.

When `PRIVATE_MODE=true`, every API path except a small allowlist
(`/health`, `/auth/{config,login,logout,register}`) requires a valid
session cookie or bearer token — anonymous reads are rejected with
401. Self-registration is force-disabled in private mode regardless
of `ALLOW_SELF_REGISTER`, so a locked-down instance flips with a
single switch (admins still mint accounts via `POST /admin/users`).
The backend gate is a tower middleware that reuses the existing
`CurrentUser` extractor, so the cookie + bearer paths cannot drift
from per-handler auth. `/auth/config` now exposes the flag plus the
effective `self_register_enabled` value so the frontend can render
the navbar correctly on the first paint.
On the frontend, a new universal root `+layout.ts` fetches the
config and redirects anonymous visitors to `/login?next=<path>`
before page-specific loads fire. The redirect is UX only — the
backend middleware is the source of truth, so crafted requests
still 401.
Defaults stay public (`PRIVATE_MODE=false`); existing deployments
need no env change.

Pairs with the ALLOW_SELF_REGISTER toggle from 0.42.0: admins can mint
accounts regardless of the toggle state, so a closed-membership
deployment still has a working enrollment path. The endpoint accepts
{ username, password, is_admin? } so admins can mint co-admins in one
call (avoiding a separate promote + extra audit row for the common
"invite a co-admin" flow).
Implementation:
- POST /api/v1/admin/users guarded by RequireAdmin
- Reuses validate_username / validate_password from api::auth (made
pub(crate)) so the admin path can never produce an account self-
register would reject and vice versa
- repo::user::admin_create_user wraps INSERT + admin_audit insert in
a single tx — same "audit reflects what committed" semantics as the
existing admin_safe_* fns
- Audit row: action="create_user", payload={username, is_admin}
Frontend:
- createAdminUser() in lib/api/admin.ts
- /admin/users grows a collapsible "Create user" form above the table
(username, password, "Make admin" checkbox). Errors surface inline;
the list reloads on success.
Backend tests: 7 new, including the headline
`create_user_works_even_when_self_register_disabled` that pins the
admin-create path is NOT gated by the public toggle.
Lets operators run a closed-membership deployment by setting
ALLOW_SELF_REGISTER=false (default true, so existing deploys are
unaffected). When off, POST /auth/register returns 403 forbidden. The
rate-limit token is consumed BEFORE the disabled check so the timing
doesn't distinguish enabled-but-rejected from disabled — closes the
toggle-state probe channel.
New public GET /auth/config returns { self_register_enabled: bool }
so the frontend can render its register affordances correctly
without conflating "disabled" with "rate-limited" (which a probe
attempt would).
Frontend: a lightweight reactive `authConfig` store loads the flag
once on root-layout mount (and again on /register direct navigation,
which bypasses the layout's onMount). Header hides the Register link
when the toggle is off; /register renders a "self-registration is
disabled — ask an administrator" notice instead of the form.
Admin-create endpoint that pairs with this toggle is intentionally
not in this PR — it lands as the next branch (feat/admin-user-create).
The toggle alone is independently useful for deployments that want
to lock down enrollment without yet wiring an admin UI.
Addresses the security-audit findings on top of the admin feature stack:
M1: /admin/mangas/:id/chapters now paginates (default limit 200, max 500).
A long-runner with thousands of chapters would otherwise produce a multi-MB
response with that many scalar subqueries per row — admin-only but a real
stall risk on one expand-click. Adds explicit pagination tests for the cap
and offset; frontend renders a "Showing first N of M" hint when the cap
clips the result.
L1: repo::user::set_is_admin renamed to set_is_admin_unchecked with a
doc-comment pointing at admin_safe_set_is_admin for production use. The
short name was a footgun — a future contributor reaching for it would
silently bypass self-protection, the last-admin invariant, and the audit
log. Used only by integration-test setup; production code goes through
the admin_safe_* paths.
CSRF posture: build_session_cookie carries a comment that the
SameSite=Lax default is the project's CSRF defense for state-changing
mutations and breaks the instant anyone adds a side-effecting GET under
/admin/*. Spells out what to do then (Strict + explicit token check).
Test counts: 43 backend admin tests + 12 vitest admin tests all green;
svelte-check 0/0 across 446 files.
- admin_safe_set_is_admin: short-circuit when target.is_admin == value,
before writing audit. PATCH {is_admin: true} on someone already admin
previously wrote a misleading "promote_user" row even though the UPDATE
was a no-op.
- list_chapters (/admin/mangas/:id/chapters): explicit exists() check on
manga_id, returns 404 instead of 200 [] for a typo'd / deleted manga.
- ChapterSyncState priority: the Failed branch now requires page_count = 0,
so a chapter with pages on disk AND a historical dead job (from a
re-download attempt that crashed) stays Synced. The old order
contradicted Synced's documented "downloaded at some point" contract.
Doc comments updated alongside the SQL.
Three new regression tests pin the behaviour.
Adds GET /api/v1/admin/system returning disk (scoped to storage_dir
via statvfs), memory, CPU, and a server-side alerts array that fires
at >90% disk or memory.
Disk uses nix::sys::statvfs directly rather than sysinfo's Disks API
to avoid mountpoint-matching gymnastics for the storage_dir. A new
`Storage::local_root() -> Option<&Path>` trait method exposes the
root; the default returns None so a future S3Storage gets `disk:
null` in the response instead of fabricated numbers.
CPU is sampled inline (refresh → 250ms sleep → refresh → read) so the
endpoint adds 250ms of latency per call. No background-cache yet —
admin traffic is low-volume and the moving parts aren't worth it
until polling shows up.
Alerts are evaluated server-side so the frontend can render them
without re-implementing the thresholds.
Adds GET /api/v1/admin/mangas and /admin/mangas/:id/chapters guarded by
RequireAdmin. Sync state is computed at query time from the existing
crawler signals (manga_sources / chapter_sources / crawler_jobs) — no
new state column is persisted, so the crawler stays the single writer
of these signals.
Per-manga priority: InProgress (in-flight sync_manga or
sync_chapter_list job) > Dropped (all source rows soft-dropped) >
Synced (default; covers user-uploaded mangas with zero source rows).
Per-chapter priority: Downloading (in-flight sync_chapter_content) >
Dropped (all source rows soft-dropped) > Failed (most-recent terminal
job is dead) > NotDownloaded (page_count = 0) > Synced. The Failed
check sits ABOVE NotDownloaded so the more informative "we tried and
it died" state wins over "we never got around to it" — see the
priority comment in repo/admin_view.rs.
Migration 0020 adds a partial index on
crawler_jobs((payload->>'source_manga_key')) for the one job kind
(sync_manga) whose payload doesn't carry manga_id directly — without it
the in-flight detection for a manga falls back to a seqscan over the
job table.
Adds /api/v1/admin/users list / DELETE / PATCH guarded by RequireAdmin,
plus the audit-log substrate every future destructive admin endpoint
will reuse.
Safety properties:
- Cannot self-delete or self-demote (409 conflict, message calls out
"yourself" so the UI can render an explanation).
- Cannot remove the last admin via either DELETE or demote. The check
takes pg_advisory_xact_lock(ADMIN_INVARIANT_LOCK_KEY) and re-counts
admins inside the same tx, closing the parallel-demote race that a
bare "if count > 1" check would let through. The HTTP-serial path to
this guard is structurally unreachable (the actor would have to be
the lone admin demoting themselves, which the self-guard fires on
first); the parallel race test exercises it via repo calls.
Audit log (admin_audit table) records the action inside the same tx
as the action itself, so a rolled-back action never leaves an orphan
audit row. actor_user_id is ON DELETE SET NULL so the log outlives a
later-deleted admin. target_id is not a FK because future audit kinds
will target non-user rows.
Three features bundled into one release:
- rate-limit /auth/login, /register, /me/password (token bucket,
5 req/sec sustained with 10-request burst by default; 429 +
Retry-After header on hit; tracing::warn! per hit so operators
see attack patterns; AUTH_RATE_PER_SEC / AUTH_RATE_BURST env knobs)
- handle SIGTERM for graceful container stops (replaces bare
ctrl_c() with a select over ctrl_c + SignalKind::terminate() so
docker compose stop runs the daemon shutdown path instead of
letting Chromium leak past SIGKILL)
- clear session.user on 401 from any API call (setOn401Hook in
api/client.ts, registered from session.svelte.ts gated on
$app/environment::browser so the SSR bundle never installs it;
fixes "logged in but no bookmarks/collections" mid-session
expiry state)

Five fixes bundled into one release:
- preserve user-attached tags across crawler upserts
(repo::crawler::sync_tags now scopes to added_by IS NULL; orphaned
attachments from deleted users are reaped as crawler-owned)
- gate manga PATCH and cover endpoints on uploaded_by (require_can_edit
in api::mangas; non-NULL uploaded_by must match the caller)
- equalise login response time across user-existence branches
(run argon2 against a OnceLock-cached dummy hash on the no-user
branch so timing doesn't leak username existence)
- crawler download defences (SSRF allowlist of host literals
including IPv4-mapped IPv6 ranges, 32 MiB streamed size cap,
reject non-whitelisted image types, three-way chapter-probe
classifier replaces the binary #avatar_menu check)
- tighten validation and clean up dead unload path
(attach_tag + create_token enforce 64-char caps; LocalStorage
rejects NUL bytes explicitly; reader flushFinalProgress drops
the always-405 sendBeacon path)

Three layering cleanups from REVIEW.md §5 / §3:
- Drop the three private `is_unique_violation` helpers in
repo::{user,chapter,bookmark} in favour of sqlx 0.8's
`DatabaseError::is_unique_violation()` method (already used by
repo::collection).
- Remove the unreachable 23505 branch in repo::chapter::create — the
(manga_id, number) UNIQUE was dropped in 0013, so the defensive arm
could no longer fire. A doc note records what to do if uniqueness
is re-added.
- Move three inline SQL queries out of handlers/daemon into repo
functions: bookmarks' chapter-belongs-to-manga guard
(`repo::chapter::belongs_to_manga`), the daemon's dispatch lookup
(`repo::chapter::dispatch_target`), and the daemon's page_count
safety net (`repo::chapter::page_count`). Restores the
handlers→repo layering invariant in CLAUDE.md.
- New `crawler::url_utils` module consolidates host_of / origin_of /
registrable_domain — they used to live in three crawler submodules
with diverging edge-case behaviour. Tests moved with them.
- Doc cross-references on repo::author::set_for_manga and
repo::genre::set_for_manga pointing to the crawler's name-keyed
variants, so the intentional duplication is discoverable.

Adds PUT /mangas/:id/cover (multipart) and DELETE /mangas/:id/cover so
covers can be replaced or cleared after creation, and wires a dedicated
/manga/[id]/edit SvelteKit route that combines the existing PATCH with
the new cover endpoints. Cover PUT cleans up the old blob when the
extension changes, swallowing StorageError::NotFound so a manually-gone
file doesn't surface as a 404 to the client. Edit link on the manga
detail page is gated on session.user, matching the auth posture of the
underlying handlers.
Also pins the local-dev port story via loadEnv() in vite.config.ts so
VITE_PORT / BACKEND_URL from a (gitignored) .env keep the dev URL
stable across runs.

After a successful bookmark insert, the create handler spawns a
detached tokio task that calls pipeline::enqueue_pending_for_manga
for every chapter of the manga where page_count = 0 and the source
row is not dropped. Bookmark create returns 201 immediately; enqueue
work happens in the background and its failure is logged without
surfacing to the user (the daily cron sweeps anything missed).
The Phase A dedup index handles re-bookmarks idempotently — deleting
and recreating a bookmark does not duplicate in-flight jobs — and the
Phase B worker pool drains them.

Real-world sources publish multiple chapters at the same number:
different scanlators ("Ch.52 from bloomingdale" + "Ch.52 from mina"),
translator notices and farewells, alt-translations. The (manga_id,
number) UNIQUE constraint from 0001 silently collapsed all of those
into a single row via the upsert path in repo::crawler. Migration 0013
drops the constraint; sync_manga_chapters now plain-INSERTs each
SourceChapterRef so every parsed chapter survives as its own row.
Identity moves from the (manga_id, number) tuple to the chapter UUID:
- `GET /api/v1/mangas/:manga_id/chapters/:chapter_id` (replaces :number)
- `GET /api/v1/mangas/:manga_id/chapters/:chapter_id/pages`
- `repo::chapter::find_by_id_in_manga` (replaces find_by_manga_and_number)
- Frontend reader route renamed to `/manga/[id]/chapter/[chapter_id]`
- Chapter links throughout (manga page list, continue-reading CTA,
reader prev/next, history rows, bookmark cards) use chapter.id
- API clients getChapter/getChapterPages take a chapter id string
read_progress + bookmarks already FK chapter_id; they only enrich with
chapter_number for display, which is preserved.

The profile overview's bookmark counter showed 0 even when the user had bookmarks because /me/bookmarks left page.total null. Repo now returns the count alongside the rows; handler uses with_total.

Per-user reading progress and uploader attribution.
Schema (migration 0011): `read_progress` table (one row per (user,
manga); chapter_id nullable on chapter delete) and nullable
`uploaded_by` columns on mangas + chapters with partial indexes
scoped to non-null rows.
Endpoints (all `/me/*`, auth-scoped):
- PUT `/v1/me/read-progress` upserts. FK violations + cross-manga
chapter ids both surface as 4xx (404 / 422) so the API can't be
used to write logically invalid rows.
- GET `/v1/me/read-progress` paged newest-first list.
- GET `/v1/me/read-progress/:manga_id` enriched with chapter_number
for the manga page's Continue CTA.
- DELETE `/v1/me/read-progress/:manga_id` idempotent.
- GET `/v1/me/uploads` interleaved manga + chapter uploads as a
tagged union; limit-only pagination.
Existing manga + chapter upload handlers stamp `uploaded_by`.
Frontend:
- Reader emits progress on mount + page change (debounce) and via
IntersectionObserver in continuous mode. High-water mark is seeded
from the persisted server value so re-opening a chapter doesn't
regress to page 1. Tab close survives via `sendBeacon` (fallback
`keepalive` fetch); SPA navigation flushes via regular fetch.
- Manga detail page shows "Continue reading Chapter N — page M"
above the chapters list, working even for mangas with >50
chapters.
- New `/profile/history` tab with reading history (clear-per-row,
inline error on failure) and uploads (mangas + chapters mixed
chronologically with type-aware rendering).
171 backend tests (incl. 16 history tests covering ownership, FK
race, cross-link guard, chapter SET NULL behaviour) and 97 frontend
tests + svelte-check clean.

User-owned named lists of mangas with an add-to-collection modal on
the manga page and dedicated /collections and /collections/:id pages.
- Schema (0010): `collections` (per-user case-insensitive name
uniqueness) + `collection_mangas` join with cascade FKs.
- Endpoints: full CRUD on `/v1/collections`, idempotent add/remove
for `/v1/collections/:id/mangas`, and `/v1/mangas/:id/my-collections`
for the modal's pre-checked state. Owner-mismatch surfaces as 404
(not 403) so the API doesn't disclose collection existence to
non-owners; the frontend funnels 401 to /login. Three-state PATCH
via a new shared `domain::patch::Patch<T>` lets clients distinguish
"leave alone", "clear", and "set" for description.
- Frontend: reusable `Modal` component (focus trap, opt-in
backdrop close, ESC) and `AddToCollectionModal` with optimistic
toggling that's race-safe under fast clicks. /collections page
renders cover-collage cards; /collections/:id is editable with
per-card remove. Top nav gets a Collections link.
155 backend tests (incl. 21 collection tests covering ownership,
idempotence, sample-cover enrichment, three-state PATCH, FK race);
88 frontend tests; svelte-check clean.

- `GET /v1/authors/:id` returns `AuthorWithCount` (id, name, manga_count).
- `GET /v1/authors/:id/mangas` paged works by that author.
- `GET /v1/authors?search=` autocomplete (already used by Phase 1 forms;
now formally exposed).
- New `/authors/:id` page on the frontend; author chips on the manga
detail page (added in Phase 1) now link to a real page.
- Extracts `lib/components/MangaCard.svelte` — already used by the home
page, ready for the collection page in Phase 3.

Adds first-class manga metadata across the stack:
- **Status** (ongoing / completed), **alternative titles**, normalized
**multi-author** support, **curated genres** (13 seeded), and
**free-form user tags** (case-insensitive, globally shared). Each is
modelled as its own table joined to mangas; `mangas.author` is
backfilled into `authors` + `manga_authors` and dropped.
- New endpoints: `PATCH /v1/mangas/:id` (three-state `description`),
`POST/DELETE /v1/mangas/:id/tags[/:tag_id]`, `GET /v1/genres`,
`GET /v1/tags?search=`.
- `GET /v1/mangas` now returns `MangaCard` (with authors + genres
batched in) and supports `?status=`, `?author_id=`, `?genre_id=`,
`?tag_id=` filters — AND across facets, with empty-array no-op
semantics for the unnest primitive.
- `GET /v1/mangas/:id` returns the enriched `MangaDetail` with tags.
- Frontend: reusable `Chip` component; manga detail page renders
authors as chips linking to `/authors/:id` (Phase 2), a status
badge, alt titles, genres, and tags with inline add/remove (only
the attacher sees remove); upload form supports multi-author /
multi-genre / alt titles / status; search page gets a collapsible
URL-synced filter panel with keyboard-navigable tag autocomplete.
- 126 backend tests (incl. AND-across-facets primitive, case-insens
author/tag de-dup, transactional create rollback, PATCH semantics
for missing / null / set on description); 72 frontend tests +
svelte-check clean.

Add a vertical-scroll continuous mode to the reader alongside the
existing single-page mode. A segmented toggle in the reader top bar
switches between them; in continuous mode a gap selector
(None/Small/Medium/Large → 0/12/32/64px) controls the spacing
between stacked pages. Settings page mirrors the same controls.
Backend: new user_preferences table (one row per user, lazily
inserted, ON DELETE CASCADE) and GET/PATCH /api/v1/auth/me/preferences
gated by the existing CurrentUser extractor. Allowed values are
enforced both by API validation and table-level CHECK constraints.
Eight integration tests cover defaults, persistence, partial
updates, validation errors, auth, per-user isolation, and cascade.
Frontend: a new preferences store mirrors the theme-store pattern
with a localStorage shadow so anonymous browsers get a consistent
experience and logged-in users don't flash defaults while the
server response is in flight. Server values that the frontend
doesn't recognize (forward-compat) are ignored rather than poisoning
the UI; non-401 PATCH errors revert the optimistic local update;
logout clears the shadow so user A's settings don't follow user B
on a shared browser.
In continuous mode native scrolling handles Space/PageDown/arrows;
Home/End remain wired and call scrollIntoView() so jumping to chapter
bounds stays one keystroke. Single-page mode (chevrons, arrow-key
pagination, next-page preload) is unchanged.
Versions bumped 0.13.0 → 0.14.0 in lockstep.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
- F1: backend/Dockerfile now copies Cargo.lock alongside Cargo.toml
and builds with --locked, so the production image runs against the
exact crate versions CI tested. Without this, cargo silently
resolved fresh on each image build and "we tested it" stopped being
true for the binary you ship.
- F2: POST /api/v1/mangas/{id}/chapters rejects chapter `number < 1`
with 422 validation_failed. Mirrors the bookmark page>=1 rule from
0.9.4 — chapter numbers are 1-indexed everywhere (URLs, upload
form, reader) and 0/negative numbers had no legitimate use. Three
cases (0, -1, -100) in api_uploads.rs.
- F3: bookmarks/+page.ts no longer re-throws non-401 ApiErrors as
SvelteKit's generic 500 page. Surfaces the error message inline via
a new `data.error` field; the page renders an alert when present.
Same UX shape as the home page's existing error handling.
- F4: dropped Space from the reader keyboard binding. On portrait
phones and narrow desktop windows the page image overflows the
viewport and the user expects Space to scroll — preventDefaulting
it skipped past unread content. ArrowRight + j remain.
- New backend/.dockerignore and frontend/.dockerignore so the local
target/ and node_modules/ don't get shipped into the build context
on every `docker compose build`.
Lockstep version bump to 0.10.2.

Two small documentation gaps the second-pass audit flagged:
- CLAUDE.md described only the Vite dev proxy ("Vite dev-proxies to
the backend"), which left the production path opaque. Now lists
both: the Vite proxy for `npm run dev` and
`frontend/src/hooks.server.ts` for adapter-node. Same-origin cookie
story called out explicitly.
- `/api/v1/files/{key}` is an unauthenticated capability URL by
design — reads stay public, keys are unguessable v4 UUIDs, leaked
URL leaks one file. Documented both in `backend/src/api/files.rs`'s
module doc (with a pointer at the seam a future
feat/private-libraries branch would use) and in a new "Capability
URLs" section in README so a casual reader doesn't mistake the lack
of auth for an oversight.
No code or behaviour change.

Four small follow-ups from the second-pass audit:
- N1: `manga_upload_rolls_back_when_cover_storage_fails` covers the
manga-side of the transactional rollback path. The chapter case had
a `FailingStorage` regression test already; this completes the
symmetric pair. With fail-on-put-index=0, the cover put fails on
the first call, the transaction aborts, and `SELECT count(*) FROM
mangas WHERE title = 'Berserk'` is 0.
- N2: The SvelteKit proxy now catches network-layer failures from the
upstream `fetch` (DNS / connection refused / TLS handshake) and
returns a 502 with the standard error envelope
(`code: 'upstream_unavailable'`) instead of letting SvelteKit's
generic 500 HTML page through. `client.ts` can `.json()` the result
cleanly so callers see a real ApiError with a meaningful code. The
underlying cause is logged via `console.error` for the operator.
Test in hooks.server.test.ts asserts the 502, the JSON envelope, and
that `resolve` is not called (the proxy short-circuits).
- N3: `GET /api/v1/files/*key` now sets
`X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff`. The upload-time magic-byte sniff
is authoritative for what we declare as Content-Type; `nosniff`
makes the contract explicit so older user-agents can't try to
re-detect HTML/JS in a polyglot file that survived the sniff. Test
in api_uploads.rs asserts the header.
- N4: The /bookmarks page used `{#if b.page}` to gate the "— page N"
display, which falsy-elided a legitimate `page == 0`. Backend now
rejects `page < 1` for new bookmarks (already shipped in 0.9.4),
but any pre-0.9.4 row with page=0 still rendered without its
number. Strengthened to `{#if b.page != null && b.page > 0}`.

Adds the pre-1.0 password-change story flagged by the audit. Browser
users and bot owners both go through PATCH /api/v1/auth/me/password
with the current + new password in the body.
Implementation in `api::auth::change_password`:
- CurrentUser-gated: 401 if unauthenticated.
- Verifies current_password against the stored argon2 hash. Wrong
current → 401 unauthenticated, matching the login contract.
- new_password runs through the same `validate_password` used at
registration (≥8 chars). Weak → 400 invalid_input.
- On success, wraps the swap in a single transaction:
- UPDATE users.password_hash with a fresh argon2 hash.
- DELETE every session for this user (signs out other devices —
any cookie stolen before the change is dead now).
- INSERT a new session and mint a fresh cookie so the caller stays
logged in.
- 204 + Set-Cookie on success.
Bot tokens (api_tokens) are intentionally left alone. They're explicit
opt-in credentials that the user can already audit and revoke
individually via DELETE /auth/tokens/{id}; rotating them on every
password change would surprise CI scripts.
Repo refactor: `repo::session::create` accepts `impl PgExecutor<'_>`
(same pattern feat/uploads used for chapters), and a new
`session::delete_all_for_user` covers the "sign out everywhere"
write. The existing `delete_by_token_hash` (used by logout) is
unchanged.
Coverage in tests/api_auth.rs (4 cases):
- change_password_rotates_sessions_and_swaps_credentials — happy path
asserts the new cookie differs from the original, that both the
original cookie AND a second-device cookie become invalid, that the
new cookie keeps working, that login with the old password fails
(401) and login with the new password succeeds.
- change_password_rejects_wrong_current_with_401 — wrong current
password returns 401 unauthenticated.
- change_password_rejects_weak_new_password — new_password "short"
returns 400 invalid_input.
- change_password_requires_authentication — no cookie returns 401.
README updated with the new endpoint in the auth table.
Lockstep version bump to 0.10.0.

Two related correctness fixes from the audit:
- Username uniqueness was case-sensitive (`username text UNIQUE`), so
"Alice" and "alice" could both register and then race on login.
Migration 0006 adds a unique index on `lower(username)`; the
existing constraint is kept (overlapping but cheap) to avoid a
destructive migration on any deployments that may already exist.
`repo::user::find_by_username` now matches on `lower(username) =
lower($1)` so login is case-insensitive against the same index.
Test: registering "alice" then "Alice" returns 409 conflict; login
with "ALICE" succeeds against the existing user.
- `POST /api/v1/bookmarks` silently accepted `page: 0` and `page: -1`
even though both are nonsense for a 1-indexed page number. Reject
with 422 `validation_failed` and `details.page` populated, matching
the pattern used for missing-metadata / empty-title elsewhere. Test
covers both 0 and -1.
Lockstep version bump to 0.9.4.

Previously a storage failure mid-chapter-upload left a partial chapter
row pointing at a `page_count` that didn't match what was on disk, plus
any successfully-inserted page rows. Same shape for a manga create
where the cover put or cover_image_path UPDATE failed after the manga
row was already inserted.
Fix at the DB layer: open `pool.begin()` at the start of the create,
do all DB writes against `&mut *tx`, commit only after the full
sequence succeeds. If anything before commit fails, the transaction is
rolled back on drop and the DB stays consistent. Bytes already written
to storage on a rolled-back transaction become orphans on disk; a
future reaper can sweep them, and we prioritise DB consistency over
storage tidiness in this branch.
- repo::manga::create / set_cover_image_path: signature changed to
`impl PgExecutor<'_>` so handlers can pass either `&PgPool` or
`&mut *tx`. set_cover_image_path is new — replaces the inline
`UPDATE` in the manga upload handler so the call site stays
consistent.
- repo::chapter::create / set_page_count: same shape.
- repo::page::create: same.
- api::mangas::create and api::chapters::create both open a
transaction around their DB writes; storage puts happen inside the
transaction window (since they must precede the page-row insert), so
a failed put aborts before commit.
New integration test (api_uploads::chapter_upload_rolls_back_when_
storage_fails_mid_loop) uses a `FailingStorage` helper that errors on
the N-th `put`. With N=1 (page 2 fails), the handler returns 500 and
the chapter + page tables stay empty.
`harness_with_failing_storage` is exposed alongside the existing
`harness` so future tests can reuse it for other fault-injection
cases.
