Adds a client-side toast store (info/success/error, auto-dismiss with a
sticky option) and a Toaster component mounted in the root layout, wired to
the reserved --z-toast token. Gives mutations a consistent way to surface

Most data routes run their load with ssr = false, so SvelteKit holds the
previous page on screen while the next one's data resolves — with no
feedback. NavProgress, mounted once in the root layout and driven by the
$navigating store, shows a thin top bar that trickles while a navigation is
pending and fades out on completion. Degrades to a static visible bar under
prefers-reduced-motion. New --z-nav-progress token sits above the fixed
header but below modals/toasts.

The admin area was reachable only from the desktop header's is_admin link;
on mobile there was no tab or row, so admins had to type the URL and no tab
highlighted. Add a conditional Admin row to the mobile Account hub and
`/admin` to the Account tab's match prefixes, so the tab stays highlighted
while an admin is in the admin area.
e2e: an admin session shows an Admin row linking to /admin; a non-admin
never sees it.

Completes the IconButton extraction by adding `size` and `radius` props and
converting the two remaining outliers that were left out of the first pass:
the desktop header logout button (+layout) and the home search submit button
(+page), both 36px with the medium radius.
IconButton now drives every icon button in the app (except profile/history's,
which the shared-HistoryList change removes separately). Defaults stay 32px /
small radius, so the four already-converted sites are untouched. Rendered
size, radius, and variant match the old markup — no behaviour change, no
version bump.
This also sets up applying the --tap-min touch floor in one place once the
touch-target change lands.

Visual cleanup pass after wiring up real data — the placeholder
content used during the five mobile phases hid a few sharp edges
that became obvious as soon as user-supplied tags / author handles
/ descriptions hit the screen.
- Mobile gutter unified at 16px (was 12px) — matches iOS / Material
standard and gives chips, description text, and chapter rows
visible breathing room from the screen edge. Hero negative margin
in /manga/[id] tracks the change so the bleed still hits viewport.
- Catalog grid switched from 2 columns to 4 with
`repeat(4, minmax(0, 1fr))` (per user preference). The `minmax(0,
...)` is load-bearing — without it the implicit `minmax(auto, 1fr)`
lets a long single-word card title push the column past the
viewport edge. MangaCard's `.author` and `.genres` lines hide
below 640px so every card in the 4-col layout has identical height
(cover + 2-line title clamp).
- Same minmax(0, 1fr) trick applied to the detail page's
`.overview` grid track, plus defensive `min-width: 0` /
`max-width: 100%` on `.meta` and `.chip-row` so a long
unbreakable tag or romanized URL can't drag the metadata column
past the article gutter.
- BottomNav swapped from `grid-auto-columns` (= `minmax(auto, 1fr)`)
to an explicit `repeat(4, minmax(0, 1fr))`, plus `min-width: 0` on
`.tab` and an ellipsizing `.label` so a long tab label stays
inside the bar. The Browse placeholder is replaced with Upload —
a real action, no longer a no-op duplicate of Home.
- Hero appbar gets 16px all-around inset (was 8px) so the back / ⋯
circle buttons aren't kissing the screen edge or the hero top.
Hero content gets 20px horizontal padding so the cover thumb +
title sit visibly off the hero scrim. Description gains
`overflow-wrap: anywhere` for long URLs / romanized titles.
- Chip now allows `overflow-wrap: anywhere` on its label and uses
`max-width: 100%` + `min-width: 0` so a long token wraps to its
own line within the chip-row and ellipsizes inside the chip.
- Mobile catalog search-row gains `flex-basis: calc(100% - 36px -
--space-2)` so the search input takes its own line — the Filter
and Sort chips wrap to a second row instead of squeezing the
input down to a few characters.
- Global safety net: `html, body { overflow-x: hidden }` below
640px so any future bug that lets an element overflow the
viewport doesn't expose touch-pan that shifts the whole layout.
Fixed descendants (bottom nav, CTA bar) are unaffected.
- audit.mjs — small dev helper that walks all 12 user-facing
routes at 390px and reports horizontal overflow, internal
scrollers, and edge-bleeding controls. Used to drive these fixes
and useful for future mobile changes.

Phase 5 (final) of the mobile redesign: /profile/account becomes an
inset-grouped iOS-style hub on mobile and the new /library route hosts
a SegmentedControl over Bookmarks / Collections / History. Profile-
layout horizontal tabs hide below 640px. Desktop layout is unchanged.
- New /library/+page.ts loads bookmarks, collections, and read-history
in parallel so segmented-control tabs swap instantly without a new
round trip. 401 → unauthenticated path with sign-in prompt.
- New /library/+page.svelte renders the SegmentedControl with ?tab=
as the source of truth. Bookmarks reuses the existing BookmarkList,
Collections reuses CollectionsGrid, History inlines a slim cover +
title + "Continue Ch. N" row list. `goto(..., { replaceState: true })`
drives the URL — plain `replaceState` from $app/navigation doesn't
reliably re-trigger $page-derived state.
- BottomNav's Library tab now points at /library (Phase 1 placeholder
was /bookmarks). The Phase 1 mobile-chrome spec is updated to expect
the new target and mocks the additional library data endpoints.
- /profile/+layout.svelte hides the horizontal tabs below 640px — the
bottom-nav Library/Account tabs plus the account hub carry mobile
cross-section navigation.
- /profile/account/+page.svelte gains a mobile hub: a centered avatar
+ username + "Member since" header, a row group with Profile /
Preferences / Change password rows (the last opening a bottom
Sheet hosting the existing password form snippet), and a separate
group with a red "Log out" row that reuses the layout's logout
flow (logout API → session.setUser(null) → preferences.clearForLogout
→ goto('/login')). Desktop keeps the inline card with the form.
- matchMedia gates the hub vs. desktop card so the password form
testids never duplicate on the page — the snippet is rendered in
exactly one mount at a time.
- 9 Playwright tests cover the Library nav handoff, segmented-control
sub-tab swap with URL, sign-in CTAs on both routes, account hub
composition, password sheet open flow, logout flow (POST /auth/
logout + redirect to /login), profile tabs hiding on mobile, and
the desktop regression where the inline card is the only password
surface.

Phase 3 of the mobile redesign: the manga detail page gets a mobile-
native chrome — blurred-cover hero with a transparent app bar overlay,
secondary actions in an overflow Sheet, a 3-line description clamp
with Read more, and a sticky bottom CTA whose wording reflects read
progress. Desktop layout is untouched.
- /manga/[id] joins the layout's HIDE_MOBILE_CHROME route set so the
global AppBar and BottomNav step aside for the page-specific hero
chrome. A new `html[data-mobile-full-bleed]` opt-in zeroes main's
mobile top padding without touching horizontal/bottom gutters.
- The hero block (mobile-only via CSS) renders a blurred cover
backdrop, a transparent app bar (back / bookmark / overflow ⋯), and
a sharp cover thumbnail beside the title, authors, and status. The
bookmark icon swaps between Bookmark and BookmarkCheck based on the
current bookmark state — reusing the existing toggleBookmark flow.
- Secondary actions (Add to collection / Edit / Upload chapter /
Force resync) move into an overflow Sheet opened from the ⋯
button. The desktop action-row stays.
- Description gets a `.clamped` modifier (-webkit-line-clamp: 3) and
a Read more toggle on mobile, gated by a >200-char heuristic so
short blurbs don't render a dangling button. Desktop shows the
full description as before.
- Sticky bottom CTA bar reads "Continue {chapterLabel}" when
data.readProgress has a chapter_id, "Read first chapter" when
the manga has chapters but no progress, and hides otherwise. The
bar honors env(safe-area-inset-bottom) so it sits above the iOS
home indicator.
- New Playwright spec covers the CTA wording state machine
(no-progress → Read first chapter, has-progress → Continue),
Read more expand/collapse, overflow sheet contents, and a desktop
regression for the unchanged action-row.

later phase plugs into, and switch the layout to a 4-tab bottom nav
+ compact AppBar on phone viewports while leaving the desktop header
untouched above 640px.
- New primitives: BottomNav, Sheet, AppBar, SegmentedControl, all
with vitest unit tests.
- Layout swaps the desktop header for AppBar + BottomNav under the
existing 640px breakpoint. Login / register / reader routes opt

Bundle of small UI/UX fixes plus a build hygiene tweak.
* List pagination — Home (`/`) and `/authors/[id]` silently capped at
the backend default of 50 with no UI to advance. New reusable
`Pager.svelte` (Prev/Next + numbered with ellipsis), URL-synced
`?page=N`, and filter/search/sort reset to page 1 so users aren't
stranded on an out-of-range page. Count label now shows a range
("Showing 51–100 of 237").
* Stale page title — Pages without a `<svelte:head><title>` left the
document title at whatever the last manga / author / collection page
set it to. Move static-route titles into a route-id → title map in
the root layout and invert every dynamic title to brand-first
(`Mangalord | {X}`) for consistency.
* Admin filter bar — `/admin/mangas` search input had `flex: 1` and
ballooned across the row, shoving the sync-state select + Search
button to the far right. Cap at 24rem, vertical-align the row, and
promote the previously aria-only "Sync state" label to visible text.
* Build hygiene — `backend/target` had grown to 68 GiB. Cleaned and
added `[profile.dev] debug = "line-tables-only"` (and `[profile.test]`
too) to cut future dev builds by ~50–70% while keeping line numbers
in backtraces.
Also: configure vitest to resolve Svelte's browser entry so
`@testing-library/svelte` can mount components in jsdom — needed for
the new `Pager.svelte.test.ts`.

When `PRIVATE_MODE=true`, every API path except a small allowlist
(`/health`, `/auth/{config,login,logout,register}`) requires a valid
session cookie or bearer token — anonymous reads are rejected with
401. Self-registration is force-disabled in private mode regardless
of `ALLOW_SELF_REGISTER`, so a locked-down instance flips with a
single switch (admins still mint accounts via `POST /admin/users`).
The backend gate is a tower middleware that reuses the existing
`CurrentUser` extractor, so the cookie + bearer paths cannot drift
from per-handler auth. `/auth/config` now exposes the flag plus the
effective `self_register_enabled` value so the frontend can render
the navbar correctly on the first paint.
On the frontend, a new universal root `+layout.ts` fetches the
config and redirects anonymous visitors to `/login?next=<path>`
before page-specific loads fire. The redirect is UX only — the
backend middleware is the source of truth, so crafted requests
still 401.
Defaults stay public (`PRIVATE_MODE=false`); existing deployments
need no env change.

Lets operators run a closed-membership deployment by setting
ALLOW_SELF_REGISTER=false (default true, so existing deploys are
unaffected). When off, POST /auth/register returns 403 forbidden. The
rate-limit token is consumed BEFORE the disabled check so the timing
doesn't distinguish enabled-but-rejected from disabled — closes the
toggle-state probe channel.
New public GET /auth/config returns { self_register_enabled: bool }
so the frontend can render its register affordances correctly
without conflating "disabled" with "rate-limited" (which a probe
attempt would).
Frontend: a lightweight reactive `authConfig` store loads the flag
once on root-layout mount (and again on /register direct navigation,
which bypasses the layout's onMount). Header hides the Register link
when the toggle is off; /register renders a "self-registration is
disabled — ask an administrator" notice instead of the form.
Admin-create endpoint that pairs with this toggle is intentionally
not in this PR — it lands as the next branch (feat/admin-user-create).
The toggle alone is independently useful for deployments that want
to lock down enrollment without yet wiring an admin UI.
Adds the SvelteKit /admin route tree backed by the admin endpoints
landed in PR 1-4. Pages: Overview (alerts + summary cards), Users
(list / promote-demote / delete), Mangas (list with sync state +
expandable per-chapter state), System (live disk/mem/cpu bars,
refreshing every 5s).
Security model: the backend's RequireAdmin extractor is the actual
boundary. /admin/+layout.ts calls getSystemStats() at load and
translates the response — 401 → redirect to /login, 403 → throw
SvelteKit error(403) which renders the framework error page. The
header's "Admin" link is hidden unless `session.user?.is_admin`,
but that's UX only.
Carries `is_admin: boolean` through to the frontend User TS type so
the header check works and so admin tables can show role per row.
Vitest covers lib/api/admin.ts (10 tests: list/delete/PATCH for
users, sync-state filter for mangas, nested chapter route, system
disk-nullable case). Playwright is intentionally deferred until the
routes stabilise — admin UI is operator-only and changes shape often
in v0.
Reader gets chapter-aware chevrons + a persistent app frame +
distraction-free focus mode.
- Single-mode chevrons (and ArrowLeft/Right + j/k) advance pages
within the chapter and fall through to the adjacent chapter at the
boundaries. Last page of last chapter / first page of first
chapter disables the chevron and silent-no-ops on the keypress.
- Continuous-mode gets a fixed bottom bar with prev/next chapter
buttons; arrows + j/k jump chapters directly.
- `?page=N` and `?page=last` URL query lets the prev-chapter jump
land on the previous chapter's last page.
- Layout header is fixed at the top; reader nav is sticky just
below it; both stay visible while scrolling so reading settings
are always reachable.
- New "Focus" toggle in the reader nav hides the layout header,
reader nav, and bottom chapter bar with smooth 220ms slide
animations. Exit via Esc or a small floating Minimize2 button at
the top-right (low resting opacity, full on hover). Reset on
reader unmount so it doesn't leak to other pages.

Tabbed user dashboard at `/profile` that absorbs `/settings` and
surfaces bookmarks + collections in one place.
- New `/profile` shell with tabs: Overview (counts), Preferences
(theme + reader prefs, ported from /settings; works for guests
via localStorage), Account (password change; auth-gated),
Bookmarks, Collections. Guest tab list is filtered to what they
can actually use.
- `/settings` is a 308 redirect to `/profile/preferences` so old
bookmarks land cleanly. The "Settings" link in the top nav is
replaced by a Profile link between Upload and Bookmarks; Bookmarks
+ Collections stay as shortcuts per the user spec.
- Extracts `lib/components/BookmarkList.svelte` and
`lib/components/CollectionsGrid.svelte` so the top-level
/bookmarks + /collections routes and the new profile tabs render
the same UI without duplication. Both layers use a three-state
load (authenticated / guest / error) to handle network hiccups
inline.
- Deep links preserved via `?next=` on every sign-in CTA.
88 frontend unit tests + svelte-check clean; 12 of 12 e2e tests in
profile.spec.ts and reader-mode.spec.ts pass (8 other e2e failures
predate this branch and stay flagged for cleanup).

User-owned named lists of mangas with an add-to-collection modal on
the manga page and dedicated /collections and /collections/:id pages.
- Schema (0010): `collections` (per-user case-insensitive name
uniqueness) + `collection_mangas` join with cascade FKs.
- Endpoints: full CRUD on `/v1/collections`, idempotent add/remove
for `/v1/collections/:id/mangas`, and `/v1/mangas/:id/my-collections`
for the modal's pre-checked state. Owner-mismatch surfaces as 404
(not 403) so the API doesn't disclose collection existence to
non-owners; the frontend funnels 401 to /login. Three-state PATCH
via a new shared `domain::patch::Patch<T>` lets clients distinguish
"leave alone", "clear", and "set" for description.
- Frontend: reusable `Modal` component (focus trap, opt-in
backdrop close, ESC) and `AddToCollectionModal` with optimistic
toggling that's race-safe under fast clicks. /collections page
renders cover-collage cards; /collections/:id is editable with
per-card remove. Top nav gets a Collections link.
155 backend tests (incl. 21 collection tests covering ownership,
idempotence, sample-cover enrichment, three-state PATCH, FK race);

Add a vertical-scroll continuous mode to the reader alongside the
existing single-page mode. A segmented toggle in the reader top bar
switches between them; in continuous mode a gap selector
(None/Small/Medium/Large → 0/12/32/64px) controls the spacing
between stacked pages. Settings page mirrors the same controls.
Backend: new user_preferences table (one row per user, lazily
inserted, ON DELETE CASCADE) and GET/PATCH /api/v1/auth/me/preferences
gated by the existing CurrentUser extractor. Allowed values are
enforced both by API validation and table-level CHECK constraints.
Eight integration tests cover defaults, persistence, partial
updates, validation errors, auth, per-user isolation, and cascade.
Frontend: a new preferences store mirrors the theme-store pattern
with a localStorage shadow so anonymous browsers get a consistent
experience and logged-in users don't flash defaults while the
server response is in flight. Server values that the frontend
doesn't recognize (forward-compat) are ignored rather than poisoning
the UI; non-401 PATCH errors revert the optimistic local update;
logout clears the shadow so user A's settings don't follow user B
on a shared browser.
In continuous mode native scrolling handles Space/PageDown/arrows;
Home/End remain wired and call scrollIntoView() so jumping to chapter
bounds stays one keystroke. Single-page mode (chevrons, arrow-key
pagination, next-page preload) is unchanged.
Versions bumped 0.13.0 → 0.14.0 in lockstep.

Adds a real design system to replace the per-route ad-hoc styling:
- docs/design-system.md is the contract. Semantic CSS custom-property
tokens (color/type/spacing/radii/shadows/z-index) with verified WCAG
AA/AAA contrast ratios for both themes.
- frontend/src/lib/styles/tokens.css defines :root tokens + a
[data-theme="dark"] override + base element resets, a .form-field
helper, and a global prefers-reduced-motion rule.
- frontend/src/lib/theme.svelte.ts is a Svelte 5 runes store backing
the theme state machine (system | light | dark). localStorage key
'mangalord-theme'; matchMedia subscription that re-resolves on OS
theme change while in 'system' mode; init() / destroy() lifecycle
wired from +layout.svelte.
- frontend/src/app.html runs a synchronous inline script before
%sveltekit.head% to set [data-theme] before first paint. No FOUC.
- /settings gains a System / Light / Dark radiogroup (real fieldset +
legend + radios with lucide icons).
- Every route's <style> block is rewritten to consume tokens — home,
auth, upload (drop-zone + page list), bookmarks, manga overview,
reader.
- @lucide/svelte icons replace ad-hoc text controls per the spec:
Search (icon-only primary), LogOut (icon-only muted), Upload /
Bookmarks / Settings nav inline icons, ChevronLeft/Right for the
reader, ArrowUp/Down/Trash2 for the upload page list. The bookmark
toggle keeps its '☆ Bookmark' / '★ Bookmarked' text verbatim.
- Home search controls split into two rows: input + Search CTA on
row 1, Sort (and future filters) on row 2.
Accessibility: every icon-only button carries aria-label, every
decorative SVG aria-hidden; existing image alt text preserved;
focus-visible rings reach every interactive element including the
visually-hidden theme radios; color is never the sole conveyor.
Version bump 0.12.0 → 0.13.0 across backend/Cargo.toml and
frontend/package.json (feat: → minor per CLAUDE.md).
Bars: svelte-check 0/0, vitest 51/51, playwright 18/18, cargo test

The 0.10.0 backend endpoint had no UI caller — the audit flagged it
as either-ship-a-form-or-remove-the-endpoint dead code. Shipping the
form, plus the bearer-token-keeps-working regression test the audit
asked for to pin the docstring contract.
Backend:
- New test change_password_via_bearer_leaves_bearer_working asserts
that PATCH /me/password called with Authorization: Bearer wipes
cookie sessions but leaves the bearer (api_token) intact and usable
— matches the docstring claim that bot tokens are opt-in to revoke.
Frontend:
- lib/api/auth.ts: new changePassword(input) wrapping PATCH
/v1/auth/me/password. Vitest covers happy 204, 401 unauthenticated
(wrong current), 400 invalid_input (weak new) — same envelope
parsing shape used elsewhere.
- routes/settings/+page.svelte: minimal form with current /
new / confirm fields, derived passwordsMatch + canSubmit guards
(submit stays disabled until current is filled, new is ≥8 chars,
new == confirm). Shows the API's message inline on failure.
Documents the "other devices signed out, bot tokens stay" UX in a

Adds the full auth flow. Reads stay public; writes (currently only POST
/api/v1/mangas) require a CurrentUser. Both browsers and bot scripts hit
the same endpoints — they just present credentials differently.
Migration 0002_auth.sql introduces users.password_hash, a sessions
table, and an api_tokens table. Sessions and api_tokens store only
sha256(raw_token) — the raw value lives in the cookie or the
Authorization header.
New endpoints under /api/v1/auth/:
- POST /register — argon2id hash, creates a session, sets cookie.
- POST /login — verifies, rotates to a fresh session (old ones expire
naturally so other devices stay signed in).
- POST /logout — deletes the server-side session row + clears the
cookie via Max-Age=0.
- GET /me — current user via the new CurrentUser extractor.
- POST /tokens — issue a bot bearer token; raw value returned exactly
once at creation.
- DELETE /tokens/{id} — owner-only: 404 if unknown, 403 if it exists
but belongs to another user, 204 on success.
The CurrentUser axum extractor resolves cookie first, then
Authorization: Bearer; failure → AppError::Unauthenticated (401). New
AppError variants Unauthenticated/Forbidden/Conflict carry the matching
envelope codes; the top-level match in `code()` stays exhaustive.
Backend integration coverage in tests/api_auth.rs: register sets a
HttpOnly SameSite=Lax cookie and never leaks password_hash; duplicate
username → 409; weak password → 400; login rotates the cookie; wrong
password / unknown user → 401; /me with vs without cookie; logout
invalidates the cookie; bot-token roundtrip via Bearer; user A cannot
delete user B's token (403); unknown delete → 404.
Frontend:
- lib/api/auth.ts — typed wrappers; me() returns null on 401.
- lib/session.svelte.ts — per-tab user state with a seq counter to
guard against an in-flight /me clobbering a fresh setUser.
- lib/api/client.ts — request<T> returns undefined for 204.
- routes/login + routes/register — forms with action="javascript:void(0)"
so the no-JS path is a no-op (avoids the hydration-race where a
pre-attach click would submit via the browser default).
- routes/+layout.svelte — session-aware nav: spinner → user + Logout,
or Login / Register.
- e2e/auth-flow.spec.ts — login flips the layout, logout flips back;
bad credentials surface the API error message.
Config grows AuthConfig (cookie_secure, cookie_domain, session_ttl_days)
and CORS_ALLOWED_ORIGINS. CORS middleware is mounted in app::build and
stays a no-op (same-origin) until origins are listed.
Lockstep version bump to 0.3.0.

Set up Mangalord with a Rust/axum backend, SvelteKit frontend, Postgres,
and Docker Compose deployment. Establishes the architecture and TDD
patterns the project will extend:
- Hexagonal-ish backend layering (domain / repo / storage / api) with
a pluggable Storage trait (LocalStorage today, S3 as a future impl).
- Initial migration: users, mangas, chapters, bookmarks.
- Vertical slice for mangas (list, search, create, get) with
#[sqlx::test] integration coverage and storage unit tests.
- SvelteKit frontend using Svelte 5 runes, typed API client, Vitest
unit tests and Playwright e2e with route mocking.
- CLAUDE.md documenting layering, TDD/git/SemVer workflow rules, and
extension points (tags, fulltext search, OCR, S3, auth).
- Project-scoped .claude/settings.json with permission allowlist for
the toolchain (git, cargo, npm/vite, docker, psql, gh, doc fetches).
